David's 3rd Birthday.

Somebody had a birthday yesterday!  It was such a fun day.  We went to the Dinosaur Museum in the morning and had a family party in the evening.  I think David felt so special to be the center of attention for a while.

When I said, "Smile big" this is what David did:

 David and Grandpa:

The Tyler side of the family keeps up the tradition of singing, "For he's a jolly good fellow, for he's a jolly good fellow, for he's a jolly good fellowwwww.  And so say all of us, hip hip hooray, hip hip hooray, hip hip hooray!"  I think my Grandpa picked it up in New Zealand on his mission.  I love it and David was hooray-ing like the best of 'em.

The older kids showed him the ropes with opening presents and organized which present to open next.  It was a pretty impressive operation.

David got so many fun presents, and kept bringing them to me and asking, "Mom, do I get to bring this home?"  He felt like it was too good to be true.

So much family came to celebrate - we had the Haskell side from my Mom's side of the family and some Terry's, plus a good friend from our ward.

The bubble machine was a big hit:

And I spent a lot of time this week working to get this present finished for David.  He loves the book Freight Train, so I designed this especially for him.  I finished binding it at 4 pm and his party was at 6:30 pm.  Plenty of time to spare.  To be honest, this cannot compete with a bunch of new trucks, but eventually I'm sure he'll notice it and like it.  :)

And last, a couple flashback pictures.

Independence Day 2016

This was the most picture perfect 4th of July in memory.  The girls and I went for an early morning bike ride.  The weather was perfect and the thistles blooming.

We made it home just as the sun was peeking over the mountains (and barely beat the heat because of that)

Then we had a breakfast with the Tyler's which meant time for cousins to play...

Delicious food...

Water games in the back yard...

a bouncy house...

Jon with us all day long...

enlightening conversation...

Then home for a rest (note David's face...they were playing super smash brothers)

Then we got together with the Terry's for a splash pad...

a swim in the pool...

a great picnic, a game of duck duck goose, and hearing Dad's stories from his service in the Military.

I seriously had such a great day.  The perfect mix of family, fun and relaxing.  So grateful to live in America.  It's not perfect, but it's pretty great all the same.
